The city of Juneau in Alaska was recently thrilled by the story of a local woman. She assured that she saw a huge bird in the sky and that it was probably the same Thunderbird from Indian legends and myths.

The Thunderbird is a legendary creature in the mythology of the North American Indians with supernatural power. Most often depicted and revered by the Pacific Coast Indians, it is also found in various forms in the American Southwest and the Great Plains. The name "Thunderbird" comes from the belief that the giant wings of this bird raise the wind and cause thunder.

As reported on February 2, the Alaskan newspaper Juneau Empire, a huge bird in the sky was observed in the Mendenhall Valley (where the famous glacier of the same name is located) and its wingspan was as wide as the Mendenhall Loop Road, which passes the glacier.

The bird sighting was posted on Facebook on the Juneau Community Collective page of the local urban community. This was a post from the woman Tabitha Bauer:

“I was driving along the valley from the cinema and saw a huge black bird soaring in the sky. Her wingspan was at least 20 feet (6 meters) and they seemed as wide as the road I was driving on. I've lived here my whole life and have never seen anything like it. Trust me. it was not a big raven, and it certainly wasn't an eagle. I'm not joking at all. This creature in the sky looked like a small plane. Maybe someone else saw this bird?"

Other Juneau residents quickly began commenting on Tabitha's message. Someone tried to joke in the style of "pterodactyls scattered, probably to the rain", but many took everything seriously.

Bauer later added that the bird was similar in shape to an eagle, only five times larger than any eagle. The woman also indicated that she saw the bird on January 16, 2018 in the late afternoon. It was raining and she turned on the wipers to clean the windshield on the car, and when she involuntarily looked up, she saw a huge bird.

The bird was pitch black and flew low enough "at the top of the trees." Tabitha said that she saw the bird flap its huge wings and then flew even higher and flew directly over Tabitha's car.

“I slowed down to see her better, and she flew towards the glacier. It was the largest creature I have ever seen in my life. Her one body was 6-8 feet (2-2.5 meters) long."

Tabitha said that she saw black feathers on the bird, but does not remember what kind of beak it had.

“I know it looks like I'm out of my mind and I've had enough nasty messages on Facebook. But I only wrote my post in an attempt to find more people who saw this creature."

Journalists questioned local residents and found a woman named Diana, who said that she once saw a huge black bird that tried to perch at night on a tree next to Diana's house. The bird made a great noise at the same time and woke Diana up.

"It was so big that I could barely see its silhouette in the dark."

In the morning after that, the woman saw that the ground near the tree was all heaped up with broken branches.
