The other day on the territory of the Miass urban district in the northwestern part of Lake Turgoyak, the official opening of the excursion route "Vera Island" took place.

This is perhaps one of the most mysterious places in the South Urals. Most people associate this island with the Old Believers' skete located here in the 19th century. According to the legend, it was founded by the hermit Vera. They say that she did not want to obey the will of her parents and marry the unloved, and therefore retired to this island, where she treated pilgrims for many diseases.

However, archaeologists have found that the caves in which the nuns lived were not built in the 19th century, but at least about eight thousand years ago.

It is noteworthy that some of the stone blocks are very similar to those that cover the structures of the famous Stonehenge. The only (but very significant!) Difference is that on Vera Island these blocks, which, by the way, weigh several tons, have gone underground over the long millennia. On the island, scientists have found many large megaliths, menhirs and domains. It is also curious that the most remarkable megalith on this island is clearly oriented to the west. A few years ago, archaeologists noted that the last ray of the setting sun passes through the entire corridor of the dungeon and stops exactly in the middle of the opposite wall. And this happens precisely on the days of the equinox.

However, this island is fraught with many other mysteries. The answer to one of them has not yet been found. Who were the first inhabitants of the island and where did they go?
