Krasnoyarsk scientists talked about plans to clone a cedar for the first time in the world. Russian scientists have expressed confidence that growing seedlings is less effective than artificially reproducing them.
Iraida Tretyakova, who is a leading employee of the Sukachev Institute of Forest SB RAS, spoke in detail about the project, within the framework of which an attempt will be made to clone cedar, and in the spring, if successful, the resulting seedlings will be planted in the soil. The scientist emphasized that only in the Krasnoyarsk Territory, since 2008, trees have been cultivated in a test tube.
Over time, specialists received a patent, and today the Forest Institute is in full swing cloning larch and dwarf cedar. To reproduce a plant, scientists require a piece of matter extracted from seeds, measuring 1-2 mm, placed in a nutrient medium with the addition of a hormone. After 2 months, scientists receive 3 kg of embryoculture, each gram of which contains up to 11 thousand embryos. After they ripen, the resulting seedlings are placed in the soil.
