Today Vice President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Rogozin during a meeting with President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic showed him a number of innovative Russian developments in various fields. One of them is the unique liquid breathing system, which allows living organisms to breathe under water with the help of fluid filling their lungs. You might have seen something similar in the science fiction film The Abyss directed by James Cameron.

An impressive demonstration of the unique technology was held especially for the President of Serbia. A dachshund was placed in a tank with a liquid saturated with oxygen, which settled there after a few minutes, after which it began to breathe completely normally in a new environment for itself. After some time, the dog was removed from the tank, thoroughly wiped with a towel, and Alexander Vucic was able to personally verify that everything was in order with the animal. The President noted that he was greatly impressed by what he saw. Dmitry Rogozin emphasized that this Russian development is the future that Russian scientists are striving for.

Liquid breathing is carried out using liquids that dissolve oxygen perfectly. It involves filling the lungs with oxygenated fluid, which then enters the bloodstream. Most often, perfluorocarbon compounds are used for these purposes, which have a low surface tension, are highly inert, and are not metabolized in the body. To date, there is not a single liquid breathing system that would be actively used in one area or another. Several research teams have only carried out isolated experiments in this area.

This technology is one of several created within the walls of the Advanced Research Fund (FPI). The project is headed by Fedor Arseniev. The scientist believes that a working liquid breathing system can save a lot of human lives. For example, during a submarine crash at a depth of over 100 meters, sailors simply cannot rise to the surface due to decompression sickness, during which a "boiling blood effect" occurs. In the case of using liquid breathing apparatus, people will be able to leave the submarine without any risk and quite calmly rise to the surface. Among other things, this technology can save premature babies, as well as help people with respiratory tract burns.
