Hello, friends. I accidentally went into the digital library of Australia and found something there.
Actually, this is something - an ordinary electric light on the central streets, timed to coincide with some public holidays. Here are just the years of the photo - from 1900 to 1920.

What happened after 1920?
This is 1953, on the same streets. Some kind of pathetic semblance, there is no other way to name it. Most interestingly, street lighting in Australia did not officially appear until 1900. But how did it happen that after half a century it decreased to this? The secret is probably simple again.
The thing is that the problem was not in the light bulbs, and not in their quantity. The food sources that were used in the streets and in churches have simply disappeared. It was they who gave the power that the generation objects already familiar to us could not give out later.

P. S. There are a great many photographs of such night streets of Australian cities, which cannot be said about European or even American cities in the respective national archives. Personally, I can only explain that fact by the remoteness of the fifth continent, and, accordingly, by the low degree of responsibility of the censor in the archives.
