Scientists at McGill University (Canada) have found that melting ice will lead to unpredictable consequences for the Earth's climate, including the chaotic occurrence of extreme weather conditions and changes in air temperature around the globe. this was announced in a press release on EurekAlert !.

Researchers have predicted a climate change scenario in line with current policy, which foresees a rapid reduction in the area of glaciers in the Arctic and Antarctic and the impact of this process on the circulation and temperature of the oceans and air by 2100.

According to the model, the average temperature of the Earth will rise 3-4 degrees above pre-industrial levels, as a result of which a huge amount of melt water from Greenland and the Antarctic ice sheet will enter the oceans.

This, in turn, will disrupt sea currents and change the distribution of average annual temperatures throughout the planet. For example, the flow of melt water into the Gulf Stream will weaken it, which will lead to higher air temperatures in the Arctic, Eastern Canada and Central America. In the northwestern part of Europe, on the contrary, the temperature will drop.

In addition, the fastest rise in sea level will occur between 2065 and 2075, but it will not be uniform. On the contrary, near the poles, the sea level may drop, and the islands of the Pacific Ocean will be flooded. The melting of glaciers through the feedback loop will affect the air temperature.
