This is a strange place, Mamaev Kurgan. As historical events show, conquerors, both "small" and great, who claimed world domination, were drawn here with incredible strength. The Persian king Darius really wanted to take possession of it, and after hundreds of centuries - Hitler.

Every inch of it is soaked in blood, and the spirit of many deaths has probably not yet disappeared from here and is still poisoning the air

Every inch of it is soaked in blood, and the spirit of many deaths has probably not yet disappeared from here and is still poisoning the air.

Equal to the strength of the chief Nazi's thirst was Stalin's frantic desire not to give the cherished mound to the Germans. Thousands and thousands of soldiers perished on its slopes. Every inch of it is soaked in blood, and the spirit of many deaths has probably not yet disappeared from here and is still poisoning the air, despite the seeming calmness and pacification.

The mound beckoned, he blocked, he bewitched. What is the secret and power of this mysterious Volga height?

SPECIAL PLACE

Is this place holy or cursed? There is still no definite answer. But one thing is clear, Mamaev Kurgan is far from simple and full of all kinds of secrets and mysteries. And one of the modern secrets is associated with his … name.

It would seem that there is nothing easier - since Mamaev, then, is associated with the name of a very real khan from the Golden Horde - Mamai. As the legend tells, plausible and very "historical", on this mound during the time of Mamai there was an outpost of the Mongol-Tatars. At the top there were sentries, and on the very ridge there was a horseman, whose combat mission was to watch the appearance of any danger. Hundreds of the best warriors were sent by Mamai to carry out guard duty at this height, because Mamai, they say, knew that it was from here that it was most convenient to control the Volga and the passage, and thus one could avoid sudden attacks on the capital of the khanate.

However, now some researchers argue that Khan Mamai actually had nothing to do with this mound. The real Mamayev Kurgan is located in another place - on the Seleznevoy Hill, where Mamai's guard regiments were located.

But then why was our mound still named Mamaev? There are plenty of versions. Before the Great Patriotic War, the locals called this hill just "hillock", and in the manner of the Volga Tatars it sounded like "mamai". This is one hypothesis.

According to another opinion, the name has nothing to do with Mamai and the Tatars, and the etymology of the word “mamai” from ancient Tibetan means “mother of the world”. Like this!

A number of scientists support this version: Mamayev Kurgan, of course, has nothing to do with Khan Mamai, but it reveals a connection with the origin of another ancient capital - the city of Itil, where the Khazars inhabiting it professed Judaism.

In general, the mound was not previously officially designated a mound. At first it was just a bump that didn't attract much attention. Since the time of the Battle of Stalingrad, it has become a strategically important object and in all military documents has already been referred to as "Hill 102". The name "kurgan" in relation to "height 102" was first used by one of the war correspondents. And this word stuck, even grew together with a mysterious height, especially since after the terrible battles of the Great Patriotic War this place justifies the true meaning of the word "mound" - a grave embankment …

CASES OF PAST DAYS

Modern scientists suggest that Mamaev Kurgan has a special energy because a geological fault passes under it, through which relic radiation flows, which affects people. Positive or negative is the question. But the fact that Mamayev Kurgan from time immemorial was of particular importance for people is beyond doubt.

Judging by the historical evidence, whoever he has not seen! This place was sacred to the Sarmatians. Their tribes have lived here since the 5th century. BC. to IV century. AD On the mound, they performed their rituals and sacraments. There is a legend that a sacred Sarmatian sword was stuck into the Mamayev Kurgan.

Another legend about the sword and the Mamayev Kurgan leads back to the time of Tamerlane. They say that Tamerlane entered a mysterious mound, and when he climbed to the very top, he suddenly dreamed of the Mother of God with a sword, commanding him to leave these lands. Whether Tamerlane saw the Mother of God or not, this Volga campaign in his biography is the only one interrupted …

A special story is about the Persian king Darius. In 512 BC. he gathered an army of 500,000 with the aim of marching on the Volga-Don interfluve. Darius passionately wanted to expand the boundaries of his lands at the expense of other people's possessions. The reason for the campaign was the "motto" - revenge on the Scythians for the insults inflicted on the ancestors of the Persians.

There were much fewer Scythians, and instead of going out to open battle, they decided to use a tactic that would later be called the “scorched earth” tactic: in general, the Scythians began to retreat inland, pre-filling roadside wells and springs and destroying vegetation.

Darius with his army of many thousands, elephants, lions and camels, was forced to follow the cunning enemy. Very soon his army was exhausted, weary, and a mass of discontent appeared in the ranks. Darius reached the Oar (Volga) river, and here his exhausted army stopped. Darius decided to wait and settled down on the future Mamayev Kurgan. Time passed … But the enemy - no, did not go to open battle.

Instead of a general battle, the Scythians began to quietly attack the detachments of hungry Persians who went for food, sometimes even engaging in battles with the Persian cavalry and putting them to flight.

Then, desperate, the Persians began to build fortifications - eight huge walls. But this did not help Darius either. In the end, he was forced not only to retreat - to flee, leaving almost all of his wagon train and most of the soldiers.

Later, Herodotus, in his notes on travels along the Volga, mentioned the remains of eight Persian fortifications on the Mamayev Kurgan.

GHOSTS OF MAMAEV KURGAN

But all the past battles at this height pale before the fierce battles that unfolded during the defense of Stalingrad. The Battle of Stalingrad itself lasted 200 days, and of these, the battle for Mamayev Kurgan constituted 135 days! And it was in the area of "height 102" that the Battle of Stalingrad itself ended.

The surviving soldiers and residents said that after the Battle of Stalingrad, the foot and slopes were strewn with shell fragments so much that from one square meter it was possible to collect from 500 to 1,250 pieces of shells and bombs! And for several springs, the Mamayev Kurgan did not turn green, remained gray due to a thick layer of debris that did not allow even the ubiquitous thin blades of grass to break through!

This place became the focus of huge casualties. For "Hill 102" 7,200 Russian soldiers laid down their heads, and about the same number of fascists died here. After the war, more than 34 thousand (!) Fighters who died in the defense of Stalingrad were buried in the land of Mamaev Kurgan. And search groups find the remains of the fighters of those battles to this day. Needless to say that ghosts are now wandering at this tragic height?

Night guards of the memorial complex "Mamayev Kurgan" say that even now you can find shadows of fallen soldiers here, and an incomprehensible and unnatural glow is observed on older graves.

And at the fraternal cemetery and also near the old bunker, built in 1942, on clear moonlit nights, a figure of a warrior with a machine gun appears. He does not talk and does not disappear, but simply stands as if he was guarding military fortifications or waiting for someone.

Old people talked about the restless ghost of a girl dressed as a nurse who once wandered among the trees to the left of the Motherland Monument. The female ghost was worried, tried to speak, offer her help to the counterpart, but did not have time and melted …

In 2005, a temple of All Saints appeared on the Mamayev Kurgan. Better late than never, for this special place needs heavenly protection, because too many deaths have happened here and too many people lie in this earth.

UNSOLVED MYSTERIES

The land of Mamaev Kurgan haunts many researchers, archaeologists, historians and just enthusiasts. People are trying to explain what is there in this relatively low Volga hill? And the hypotheses put forward are simply amazing.

So, there is an opinion that the Volgograd region is a kind of key point of the Earth. Rather, the center of destruction of the Earth. And it is Mamaev Kurgan, where the figure of the Motherland-Mother is now installed, is the very point of destruction. And, they say, the Nazis knew about it. That is why they were eager to seize "height 102" by all means.

There is an even more surprising hypothesis. According to her, in the Mamayev Kurgan … the Holy Grail is hidden, and that neither Stalin nor Hitler wanted to surrender the kurgan for this very reason, and that even during the battles in the kurgan archaeological excavations were carried out.

It would seem that there is nothing simpler - since Mamaev, then, is associated with the name of a very real khan from the Golden Horde - Mamai

It would seem that there is nothing simpler - since Mamaev, then, is associated with the name of a very real khan from the Golden Horde - Mamai.

An indirect proof that the Germans were really looking for something on the mound is the discovery of the "Dead's Head" ring. Such rings were worn only by employees of the special organization "Ananerbe" ("Legacy of the Ancestors"), which was engaged in the study of occult places and the search for ancient artifacts.

According to another hypothesis, Mamayev Kurgan is fraught with treasures of ancient civilizations, which can be opened only after all wars on earth cease. That is - never …
