Canadian and American scientists were able to find in TW Hydra a moving, so-called young Jupiter - this is the name given to exoplanets, which are similar in mass to Jupiter from the solar system. The research of astrophysicists was published in one of the foreign scientific journals.
The discovered planet is approximately ten million years old. The young Jupiter was named 2MASS J1119-11437. The object is about 4-8 times heavier than "our" Jupiter and is included in the class of objects that are located between planets and brown dwarfs. Recall that brown dwarfs are substars that form rather quickly in thermonuclear reactions.
The new Jupiter is moving in a group of young stars - the youngest ever discovered. There are about 20 stars in the TW Hydra association, which are about ten million years old. 2MASS J1119-11437 lies 95 light-years from the Sun.
The age of the discovered object was determined by astrophysicists by observing them in the infrared and optical ranges. The observations were carried out using the WISE telescope.
