Scientists at Brigham Young University have developed technology to draw three-dimensional shapes in the air. Unlike a conventional hologram, figures can be viewed from various angles. The technology is based on the principle of "optical trap", in which an opaque cellulose particle is captured by a laser beam, and then illuminated from different sides by lasers with different wavelengths.
The technology allows particles to move at a speed of 1.8 meters per second. Due to the high speed, the user perceives the movement of the particle as a solid pattern.
Scientists managed to get rather complex figures in this way and record them on video.
The existing system can produce images with a resolution of 1600 dpi, which exceeds the resolution of conventional computer displays. But in order to get a realistic picture, you will need to find a way to accelerate the movement of particles and control several particles at the same time.
