Scientists from Mexico very carefully remove from the ground a fossilized mammoth, which, presumably, lived in the Pleistocene era. Since the animal is cut into several parts, experts suggested that prehistoric people could have done this.

The remains of a huge woolen animal, which are probably already more than 14 thousand years old, were accidentally discovered not far from the city of Mexico City. Workers found what looked like a mammoth when they installed drainage pipes in the Tultepec settlement. From that moment on, archaeologists worked there and very soon they are going to complete the work.

Archaeologist at the National Institute of Anthropology and History Luis Cordova said that around the capital, researchers found more than 50 mammoths, all because there was a small shallow lake with salt water. Here mammals with a huge weight could get stuck and never get out. Due to the fact that the lake is salty, it perfectly preserved all the remains of ancient animals.

The body parts found in Tultepec will be studied for the first time by scientists. They suggest that the mammoth reached 3.5 meters in height, 5 meters in length, and weighed more than 5 tons. The mammal at the time of death was approximately 20-25 years old. The body of the giant animal is preserved at ¾. Researchers found tusks that complemented the skull. Archaeologists still hope to find the rest of the body, so that later they can collect the whole mammoth for an exhibition in the museum.
