In the next 10 months, as it became known, the first human head transplant in the history of mankind is planned. More precisely, the body of the deceased donor will be "transplanted" into the patient. The operation will be performed in China: Italian Sergio Canavero and Chinese Zhen Xiaoping - both famous neurosurgeons with vast experience.
In 2015, the first volunteer was found for this incredibly dangerous operation. It was the Russian computer developer Valery Spiridonov. A man paralyzed by spinal muscular atrophy realizes that doctors have little chance of success, but he is still willing to take the risk, hoping to end up with a workable body.
However, as soon as a Russian declared his readiness to go under the scalpels of Canavero and Xiaoping, there were immediately many Chinese citizens who wanted their heads to be transplanted onto healthy bodies. At the moment, surgeons are determining who to start with, but they report that Spiridonov will certainly be operated on. If he is not the first such patient, then he will have a better chance of surviving, since the doctors will gain experience.
It is reported that the patient will be frozen to a temperature of 15 degrees Celsius and his head will be separated from the torso, immediately connected to a heart-lung machine. A part of the body with a brain will be transplanted onto a previously prepared corpse of a person who died shortly before. For example, the body of the deceased as a result of traumatic brain injury is suitable, of which there are many.
All anatomical structures will be connected in series. The integrity of the spinal cord will be restored by treating its sections with a special biological "glue" - polyethylene glycol.
