In the American Madisonville of Kentucky, there is a curious urban legend that is very similar to the truth.

Once upon a time it was possible to find a white oak here, whose crown from the right angle looked like a woman's head in profile. The locals called it Mandy Tree. Previously, people traveled many miles to see this unusual landmark with their own eyes. And the fact is that the outlandish oak, according to rumors, was mystical and showed this profile for a reason.

The murder of Mandy Holloman and the appearance of the mysterious tree

It is alleged that a young housewife named Mandy Holloman lived here in the 1920s. One day, when the woman was alone at home, someone went inside and shot her. The murderer was never found. At first, Mandy's husband came under suspicion, but he easily proved that he was on duty at the time of the murder. Someone said that it was suicide, but the police ruled that the unfortunate Mrs. Holloman was the victim of the intruder.

However, Mandy's body was found under a window outside her house. Nearby was a white oak tree, which after a while was mysteriously struck by lightning, completely destroying it. Another white oak appeared right in the same place, and when it grew up, the neighbors were surprised to find that the branches of the tree fold in the shape of a woman's head.

People began to whisper that the crown of the oak tree shows exactly the face of Mandy Holloman, as a mute rebuke to her killer, who did not answer before the law for his atrocity. The townspeople were amazed at how much the tree resembled the facial features, hairstyle and even the high collar that the deceased loved to wear.

For almost 4 decades, the tree retained an ominous image of a woman, until a hurricane destroyed it in the 60s. Despite this, the legend of the mystical oak is still alive, and tourists still come here wanting to imbue Mandy's sad story. They say that if you look at this place on a full moon, then against the background of the lunar disk you can see the ephemeral branches of a tree - a phantom of an oak tree with the image of an unfortunate woman. Although many consider this to be pure fiction, born of the wild imagination of superstitious Americans, in fact, the ghosts of the trees were not only noticed here. Plants, apparently, just like people, have both consciousness and soul, especially since in this particular case the white oak could be the reincarnation of Mandy Holloman herself …

Unfortunately, the presented black and white photo is the only one that captured an amazing tree. The photograph was used by many American newspapers who wrote about this legend. The original was sold in the 70s to an unknown private collector.

Have you found the weapon from which the woman was killed?

In the 80s, history unexpectedly received a new round. The man who owned this house then reconstructed his home and found a 5.6 mm rifle in the wall near the fireplace. The man immediately took his find to the law enforcement officers, and they, having carefully examined it, reported that Mrs. Holloman could indeed have been killed with this weapon. The case, however, was not reopened due to its prescription.

The rifle was handed over to the late grand-nephew of the late John Taylor Jr., who left it to himself as a sad reminder of the unsolved murder of his great-aunt and her mysterious image, which was once embodied in the family tree - a mysterious white oak.
