According to the calculations presented, the continuing melting of ice in Antarctica and Greenland may already by the end of this century lead to an increase in the level of the World Ocean by 3 - 3.6 meters.

Large areas of the United States, including the areas of the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, Kennedy International Airport in New York and the estate of the current US President Donald Trump "Mar-a-Lago" in Florida, may be under water by 2100 year due to the rise in the level of the World Ocean. This probable forecast, prepared by the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and Climate Central, was published by the USA Today newspaper.

According to the calculations presented, the continuing melting of ice in Antarctica and Greenland may by the end of this century lead to an increase in the level of the World Ocean by 3 - 3.6 meters. If this scenario is realized, flooding, in particular, threatens a large part of New York, which is home to about 800 thousand people, Florida and other coastal regions of the country.

“But this is only a scenario that we hope will be avoided,” said NOAA oceanographer William Sweet. "The likelihood of flooding (of these areas) is small, but it should not be ruled out."

Climate Central has posted an interactive 3D image of Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate on its website to better understand what might happen under certain conditions. The building on it is flooded with water almost in the middle of the second floor, and there is not a trace of the golf course - a continuous surface of water.

The authors of such a possible forecast recalled that since 1880, the level of the World Ocean has risen by an average of 2.5 meters, but this did not lead to equal consequences everywhere in the world, since in some areas during this time the soil subsided and there, accordingly, the water "rose" even higher.

Melting ice in Antarctica and Greenland is one of the main reasons for the global rise in the level of the World Ocean. Antarctic ice accounts for about 60 percent of all fresh water on Earth.
