The Gobi Desert is 1,600 kilometers long and 800 kilometers wide, and its total area is 1,300,000 square kilometers. This makes the Gobi the third largest desert in the world, and the largest desert in Asia. Its territory continues to expand rapidly, because the Chinese government has launched a project to prevent desertification of the adjacent territories.
“Gobi” is translated from the Mongolian language as “waterless territory”, as all desert places are called in these places. The Gobi are divided into many territories according to the geographical principle - these are the Trans-Altai Gobi, Mongolian, Alashan. Dzungaria and Gashun Gobi. Each of them has many of its own distinctive features and features characteristic only of these places. Together, these territories make up the largest desert in Asia.
There is a strong difference in elevation in different parts of the Gobi, so the climate here is also quite different. There are strong temperature changes, winters are extremely cold and windy, and very hot in summer. Surprisingly, in winter temperatures can drop below 40 degrees Celsius and rise over 45 in summer.
