About a million valuable archaeological finds have already been made on the territory of the construction of the famous bridge across the Kerch Strait, and this is clearly not the limit. At a recent meeting dedicated to the construction of the acclaimed structure, Russian officials and scientists discussed the importance of preserving the cultural heritage that is constantly found here.
During the work, which started in 2014, the total excavation area was over 56 hectares, while the number of artifacts found may soon exceed one million. Thus, the 19-kilometer bridge not only connected Crimea with mainland Russia, but also presented our country with many valuable archaeological finds. It is reported that more than a hundred thousand of them are of great scientific interest, and therefore will be or have already been transferred to the domestic funds of museums. Some of these cultural institutions were the Taman Museum Complex and the East Crimean Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve.
The greatest concentration of finds, according to archaeologists, is observed on the approaches to the bridge. There, for example, a fragment of a terracotta sculpture in the shape of a man's head was discovered. The artifact was unexpectedly found during an underwater excavation, when divers studied a cluster of ancient ceramics. It is assumed that the head belonged to a statue depicting some ancient Greek deity.
