In 2012, astronomers made a new discovery of the planet 55 Cancri, which indicates that its mantle is made of diamonds. Previously, it was considered a gas giant of the type of Neptune, but subsequent studies have refuted this assumption, because the planet is carbon. By the way, diamonds on this planet weigh twice as much as our Earth.

The diamond planet was found in the constellation Cancer, which was surprising if only because the constellation itself has never been anything unusual. However, this constellation has a sun-like star with five open exoplanets and is called 55 Cancri.

In 2011, scientists measured the diameter of this sun-like star, from which they concluded that it is a yellow dwarf in size, but its size allows it to be seen with the naked eye. In addition, 55 Cancri has a neighbor - a red dwarf, located at a distance of 1100 astronomical units from its "brother".

The climate of the Diamond Planet is very hot: on the illuminated side, the temperature reaches 2 thousand Kelvin. There is almost no water on the planet's surface, which makes it very far from Earth in composition. All this allows 55 Cancri to be composed of a huge amount of diamonds that are found everywhere under the surface of the planet.
