Motorists have repeatedly witnessed the appearance of UFOs, there were many reports that the engines in cars were stalled, and in some cases there was even talk of abductions when people were lifted aboard a flying saucer along with a car.

However, the case with the Knowles family stands apart in this series of incidents, so unusual and out of the general "scheme" of such incidents.

Strange object above the road

In 1988, the Knowles family of Australians gathered to celebrate their country's 200th anniversary with friends in Melbourne. They had to travel about 2000 miles by car to get from Perth, where the family was home, to Melbourne. Mrs. Fay Knowles took her three sons on this journey - 24-year-old Patrick, 21-year-old Sean and 18-year-old Wayne. The company was accompanied by two more dogs, so the car was cramped and hot. To make the trip more comfortable, the Knowles decided to drive at night when it got cooler.

On January 20, the travelers found themselves in the wide plain of Nullarbor, it was early morning and, although there was no lighting on the road, the moon perfectly served as a huge night lamp. Oncoming cars were almost absent, the road was good, there was no sign of danger. None of the travelers could even imagine that the threat to their life was lurking not on the road, but in the sky.

About 7-8 miles before the planned parking lot in the small town of Mundrabilla, Sean Knowles, who was driving the car, noticed a strange object hovering above the road and glowing around the edges with yellow and white lights. In just a couple of seconds, he instantly disappeared from sight, and the young man thought that all this was just imagining him. However, after a mile, Sean again noticed the object, this time it was moving towards them, being at a low altitude, practically on the same level with their car. The frightened guy screamed and woke up the rest of the family, who were peacefully dozing in the car.

Faye, Patrick and Wayne opened their eyes just as the UFO landed on the road, and Sean pulled up hard, stopping the car. The sight was fantastic and scary at the same time, none of the Knowles had any desire to examine the flying saucer and make contact with its pilots. Faye shouted to Sean, "Start the car and go around this thing!" Sean tried to go around the UFO and almost collided with an oncoming car, the driver of which did not seem to see anything unusual on the road.

Their car has "picked up" a UFO

The pale travelers, who miraculously escaped the collision, did not have time to catch their breath when their terrier barked angrily. The dog literally jumped on the car door, as if he wanted to get out of it. While they were calming the four-legged pet, the object disappeared. After a quick consultation, the frightened travelers decided to turn back. As soon as Sean started the engine, a strange glow appeared above their car, at the same time there was a rumbling sound, as if another engine were working above them.

Suddenly, their car began to sway, and its roof sagged, as if something very heavy had landed on it. The dogs squealed pitifully, people huddled in their seats and did not know what to do. They already realized that the object that they had just seen on the road is now directly over their heads. Suddenly, through the half-open windows of the car, some kind of black dust fell and at the same moment Knowles felt that their car was lifted into the air, as if it were linked to a UFO by a powerful magnet. In addition to dust, an eerie smell entered the cabin, from which two of Fay's sons fainted.

The woman was holding her sons, trying to revive them, when the car "unhooked" from the UFO and fell to the ground. One of the tires burst with a crash, the control of the car went out of order, the car turned aside, rammed the bushes and, crashing into a sand dune, stopped. The Knowles, looking around in fear, got out of the car. There was no one around, the UFO disappeared, and only stars shone in the sky, and a bright moon hung.

It's hard to believe but it's true

When the ufologists found out about this incident and the whole story was published in a number of Australian newspapers, it turned out that that night there were other eyewitnesses who saw UFOs in the area of the road near Mundrabilla. For example, John de Jong, a truck driver, observed a strange glow on the horizon just in the direction where the Knowles car was "attacked" by a UFO. And here is another truck driver Graham Henley personally observed a UFO in the sky, similar in description to the object that the Knowles met. He was sure that he was not seeing a plane, but something very strange with flashing lights. Thus, it turned out that Fei and her sons were telling the truth.

However, the police officer Trebilcock, who was investigating the whole incident, did not doubt this. He spoke to the Knowles immediately after their encounter with the UFO and saw that they were all truly terrified. In addition, Fay, who was sitting in the car by the window, also had severe burns of unknown origin. He confirmed the words of the victims and the inspection of the car. There were specific damages on its roof, which indicated that it was actually lifted into the air; such marks did not remain from an ordinary road accident. The Knowles story was corroborated by a strange dark gray soot that covered the car and was even inside the cabin.

Analysis of the soot by the geological laboratory by scientist Richard Haynes showed that the soot is similar in composition to recycled flax with a high chlorine content. It was clear that this "soot" could not appear due to the operation of the car, and chlorine, apparently, caused the terrible smell and fainting of two young men. This soot was clear physical evidence of the strangeness of this unusual incident. The policeman's interest was also attracted by the speedometer of the car, which turned out to have a speed of 200 km per hour. The Knowles car, in terms of its technical parameters, simply could not develop such a speed. Ufologists suggested that a UFO flying over the car additionally accelerated it for some time.

Skeptics have failed

Of course, there were many skeptics who tried to find a completely natural explanation for this case, for example, a rather stupid assumption was made that the Knowles simply saw the sunset … However, both the victims and other eyewitnesses saw the mysterious object after sunset and before sunrise. According to another version, the lights were caused by lightning, and it allegedly could have hit the car, which is why soot appeared.

This version also turned out to be untenable, since the nearest weather station denied the presence of a thunderstorm at the time of the incident. The involvement of the military in this whole story (the Knowles allegedly saw flashes of light from the explosions of training missiles) was also not confirmed.

The Knowles were invited to appear on television and most Australians who watched the show believed the story was true. In their opinion, there could be only one explanation for this whole incident - Faye and her sons met with a real UFO.

Until now, this strange case has not been explained by any natural reasons, it entered the archives of ufologists along with other equally mysterious UFO-related incidents.
