During the creation of the next National Geographic program, a ferry was found in one of the lakes in Norway, on which Nazi Germany was transporting heavy water for a nuclear reactor.

Researchers and historians have found evidence supporting Nazi Germany's nuclear program, The Telegraph reports.

The publication notes that during the preparation of the next program for National Geographic using a multi-beam echo sounder in a lake located 160 kilometers from the Norwegian capital Oslo, a sunken ferry was discovered, which the researchers raised to the surface.

On board, scientists found at least 18 barrels, the analysis of which showed the content of heavy water, which is so necessary for the operation of nuclear reactors.

According to the newspaper, the Nazis planned to deliver heavy water to operate reactors and create a nuclear bomb in order to drop it on London.

The ferry carrying an important element for the creation of nuclear weapons was sunk by the Norwegian resistance fighters in 1944 on the orders of Winston Churchill.

“Germany could soon receive a nuclear bomb, and the Allies were clearly very worried about this. Heavy water was a vital component in order for the Germans to be able to start a nuclear reactor,”the publication quotes the words of historian Eric Grove.

According to him, after the end of the war, participants in the German nuclear program stated that it was the loss of heavy water that was the decisive factor that led to the curtailment of work on the launch of nuclear reactors.
