It is clear why. Hydraulic structures of this type require very high knowledge. And in the scenario of the historical past, such knowledge is not provided.
In the paintings of the Ruinist painters, fountains and pools are all over the place. Moreover, the pools are of cyclopean dimensions. And the fountains are the same.
Those who have come across the construction of a pool are well aware that these structures do not forgive mistakes in design and neglect of technologies.
Any unaccounted for trifle leads to serious problems.
I will list the most basic ones:
1. Water resistance of the pool bowl. The larger the pool, the more thoroughly the bowl is executed. It should not only not allow water to pass through, but also be as resistant to ground movements, natural and man-made low-frequency vibrations.
2. Water circulation device. If you do not provide for a counterflow, the water will bloom. If done incorrectly, the water will bloom, and no filters will help. In other words, it is necessary to know the conditions for self-purification of water.

3. Balance filling and draining. Violation of this balance will lead to unpredictable consequences, therefore, automation is on guard in modern pools.
These are the most basic requirements for the construction and maintenance of the pool.
How was all this carried out in pools and fountains in the 15th-18th centuries?
This is a very exciting topic. Our ancestors simply adored having water around them in a variety of forms: fountains, springs, pools, waterfalls. Judging by the nature of their performance, the climate was warm and the water did not freeze. But their work raises many questions.
When everything was fine and these structures were serviced, there are no questions. But disaster struck and those who built these pools either left or died. And, lo and behold, the pools and fountains continued to function properly for many decades.
Judging by the pictures, the catastrophe deprived people. All the benefits of a prosperous civilization were destroyed. Almost the entire housing stock was destroyed and the surviving people were adapted for housing, everything that was possible. They lived in huge barrels.

They dressed, wrapping themselves in the remaining rags. Fortunately, judging by the plots of numerous paintings, a huge number remained, and they were designed for a very large growth. They were cut, made all sorts of capes, togas, and other devices to hide the nakedness of the body and protect from the cold and heat.
And everywhere cyclopean fountains continued to work. And the water in the pools remained clean and was suitable for bathing, washing clothes and, and even for drinking.
It can be assumed that the water in them was flowing and replenished from natural reservoirs located higher in level. But how to explain the work of the drain? After all, the garbage does not disappear anywhere, and filters require the utmost attention. It is unlikely that the remaining humanity understood anything in their design. And the dimensions of these structures were so huge that it was impossible to master them. But the fountains worked regularly at full capacity for a very long time.
Some have survived to our times. Once there was a note in the social. networks, that in one of the small towns on the Volga, the administration decided to destroy the old operating fountain. The reason was a device that lifted water from the river to a height of almost 100 meters without a pump.
I think that the bulk of these structures disappeared precisely for this reason. Fuel-free energy on the planet is strictly prohibited. And the ancient fountains and pools worked on completely different principles of creating the pressure of the water column.
Indeed, studying the theme of ancient pools and fountains would help to clarify a lot from the life of the past of our ancestors. But, as always, everything rests against the ban on such knowledge.
