An amateur astronomer who constantly monitors images from the surface of Mars believes that he has found signs of ancient life. In photographs taken by the Curiosity rover, Joe White of Bristol discovered a rock reminiscent of the Egyptian Sphinx. The rock really looks like a long statue with a raised head.
"I believe it is about 50 meters long," said 45-year-old Joe White, who searches for unusual objects in NASA photographs every day. “I have studied this area in detail for many years and have been looking for an enlarged photograph of this place. I suspected for a long time that there might be something interesting here that had not been seen before."
“When I saw this photograph, I was amazed at how detailed the large head of this giant object was. And to the right of the sphinx's head, I noticed an entrance arch with a door. I decided to darken the image to better see the object, and it seemed to jump from the monitor right at me. I was totally amazed,”White said.
Since the successful landing of the Curiosity rover in August 2012, NASA is constantly posting photographs of the surface of Mars. The image was taken by a camera located on a 2m mast on the right side of the rover.
