A live webcam from the International Space Station (ISS) recorded a large bright red flash on the evening of February 10, 2017 (see video below).
A ufologist registered on YouTube under the name Streetcap1 recorded these footage and tried to understand the nature of the unusual phenomenon. His first guess was about sprites.
“I'm not really sure what it is. They are called sprites and can appear in the upper atmosphere. Even though he appeared much higher. Maybe this is some form of life? - wrote under his video ufologist who constantly monitors events on the ISS.
Sprites are powerful electrical discharges that occur high above storm clouds. A bright glowing flash of a strange shape appears as a result of the formation of a high-intensity electric field over the area of a thunderstorm.
Sprites often take the form of a red or orange ring. They are very fast and agile and can easily be mistaken for UFOs.
Previously, red, white and blue flashes have already appeared in the field of view of a camera aimed at the Earth. In addition, small sprites are difficult to see as they flicker for a fraction of a second and then disappear.
