In the 6th chapter of the Book of Genesis, which many do not like to discuss, it talks about some Nephilim, or giants - the children of the sons of God. The word נפילים - "nephilim" - some translate as "leading to the fall", others as "giants". Let's try to figure out who in the Scriptures are called the sons of God and who the Nephilim are.
Children of God
There are three theories about who is considered the sons of God. In Orthodox Judaism, it is believed that they mean a certain spiritual aristocracy, leaders. It is not popular among modern interpreters - if only because it is not very clear why Yahweh (one of the names of God in Judaism - ed.) Was so angry with the fact of cohabitation of religious aristocrats, pious people, with human daughters, that he decided to destroy peace. And it is also unclear why giants were born from these marriages.
Another version of the interpretation, quite common in modern Christianity: the sons of God are the pious sons of Seth (the third son of Adam and Eve), who married “human” women. However, according to the Scriptures, Seth's sons were not just pious, unlike Noah and his sons. “Then, over time, they deviated from their father's customs towards evil, since they ceased to have the necessary reverence for God and to treat people justly” - this is how Josephus Flavius writes about the sons of Seth.

There are several other passages in the Old Testament that mention the sons of God. So, in the book of Job, in the 6th verse, it says: "And there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before Yahweh, and Satan also came among them." Satan then asked permission to come down and tempt Job. People usually do not appear before the throne of God; perhaps we are talking about angels.
Job 38: 6: "… When all the sons of God shouted for joy." They rejoiced at the creation of the world, and at a time when man had not yet been created.
Daniel 3:25 says: "To this he said: behold, I see four men, not bound, walking in the midst of the fire, and the appearance of the fourth is like the son of God." How does a king know what a son of God looks like? Obviously, he has already seen some of the sons of God.
Hosea 1:10 says: “But the number of the children of Israel will be like the sand of the sea, which can neither be measured nor numbered. And where they said to them: "You are not my people", they will say: "You are the sons of the living God." Perhaps what is meant is this: you will no longer be people, but become something more.

If we take the third theory on faith, it turns out that the Nephilim (they are giants, titans, giants) are the sons of rebellious angels, who, contrary to the will of God, entered into alliances with human daughters. These "children of vice", unlike the angels, were mortal, and unlike their mothers, they did not possess an immortal soul ("for they are flesh"); God limited their earthly age to 120 years, which is very little by Old Testament standards.
One way or another, the growth of the Nephilim was enormous, their appetite was exorbitant, and their strength was many times greater than that of a human; they committed iniquity and corrupted people. Some modern interpreters of Scripture, in particular Jim Staley, believe that the appearance of these creatures was part of Satan's plan - they say, he was going to genetically modify people, change them in his own image. This would make it difficult for the Messiah to appear - and, therefore, would make the coming of the Day of Judgment inadmissible, and the fallen angels, along with Satan, would go unpunished. That is why the appearance of the Nephilim on earth so angered Yahweh that he decided to destroy the whole world with the help of a flood, sparing only the family of Noah.

However, even after the flood, the sons of God continued to enter the daughters of men, and the Nephilim continued to be born. One of the Nephilim was the Philistine warrior killed by David - the giant Goliath, who, by the way, had four brothers; Scripture mentions that the tip of his spear alone weighed 600 shekels of iron (6.84 kg). Belonged to the giants and Og, the king of Bashan; the length of his bed was 9 cubits, and the width of 4 cubits (a cubit is about 50 cm).
And the most interesting thing is that archaeologists from time to time find very intriguing things like a 120-centimeter femur in the Euphrates Valley, a bone that is clearly human, but belonged to a man four meters in height.
