Scientists from the University of British Columbia have concluded that the strength of faith in God depends on the type of thinking that a person prefers. Experts published the results of the research on the pages of the scientific journal Science.
Scientists note that there is a theory in psychology that states that there are two types of thinking: analytical and intuitive. Using intuitive perception, a person can quickly come to the desired decision, while the analytical type of thinking requires a more thorough and conscious understanding of the situation, evidence, refutation.
Scientists have suggested that intuitive thinking is closer to God, but analytical, on the contrary, is one of the sources of distrust. Researchers conducted an experiment involving more than 650 people.
During the experiment, the scientists asked the study participants to rate how important faith in God is for them. The main task of the second phase of the experiment was to "turn on" analytical abilities. For this, the subjects were asked to solve mathematical problems, and the tasks were printed in a special, difficult to read text. Experts managed to establish that after the inclusion of the analytical type of thinking, the attitude of the survey participants to God changed.
