TsNIIMash (the central scientific organization of Roskosmos) is developing a project for a base on the lunar surface, which will be inhabited by twelve space colonists. The relevant information was disseminated by the Izvestia newspaper, referring to the representative of TsNIIMash, Olga Zharova.
“At the very first stages of the construction of the base on the Moon, it will be led by much fewer people - only 2-4 astronauts. However, as the base approaches the final form, the number of crew members will reach ten to twelve people,”says Zharova.
According to a representative of TsNIIMash, the estimated minimum hermetic volume of the base, necessary to support the life of four people for a month, is 20 cubic meters.
The infrastructure of the lunar base assumes its location on the surface of our natural satellite, and not in the thickness of its soil. The latter option, however, is considered as partial - a radiation shelter can be created under the surface or a reactor facility can be placed.
The lunar base was developed in the USSR at the end of the 60s of the last century, however, due to the curtailment of the program for the colonization of the moon, the project was frozen.
