Most often, when they talk about the paranormal phenomenon of the sudden appearance on the walls or the floor of the faces of different people, they recall the famous "Faces of Belmes". In 1971, in the Spanish village of Belmes de la Moraleda, several human faces suddenly appeared on the walls, floors and tiles of one house. The faces could not be erased, they appeared again. Faces from Caprifolia
One warm August morning in 1996, Catarina Verano, a 42-year-old resident of the small village of Caprifolia near Naples, woke up to find on one of the tiles on the kitchen floor … five clear images of human faces. As if an unknown artist painted someone's portraits with oil paint. The signora, who lived alone, did not find any explanation for the mysterious art and was frightened.
Soon, numerous fellow villagers were frequenting her house, eager to gaze at the mysterious phenomenon. To get rid of annoying onlookers, Katarina decided to destroy the portraits. However, all attempts to wash away the images were in vain. Neither powders, nor gasoline, nor acetone helped. Then Signora Verano asked the tile-maker to change her tiles.
Katarina's life returned to its usual course, but not for long, since soon new images began to appear in the same place, even more distinct than the previous ones. Among them was the face of a middle-aged woman, whom the locals immediately recognized. She, too, was a resident of the village of Kaprifolia and died many years ago.
Looking at another portrait, Katharina's elderly neighbor recognized his grandmother. Some of the images reminded the villagers of their long-dead relatives, whom they knew only from photographs from family albums. All of them were buried in an abandoned cemetery, on the site of which the house of Signora Verano was later built.

Scientists dealing with paranormal phenomena became interested in mysterious portraits. One of the experts, a native of Russia, Sergey Kotlyar, having examined concrete and cement, made sure that the substance with which the portraits were painted has nothing to do with any known paint or pigment. Sergei and his group came to the conclusion that the appearance of the portraits is due to supernatural reasons.
The scientists carefully removed the tiles and placed them under the glass. Then, with the consent of Signora Verano, they removed the entire floor on the first floor. Human bones were found at a depth of several meters under the foundation. Moreover, they found old photographs, which confirmed the words of the inhabitants of the village of Kaprifolia that the faces of those who were buried in the old cemetery appeared on the floor of Katarina's house.
“The appearance of portraits of the deceased in the most unexpected places,” says Sergei, “can serve as proof that our existence does not end after physical death. Apparently, those who once walked our land wanted to inform those who are now living about themselves, for which they chose such an original way.
The face of the priest
In 1935, José Raul de Fonseca, rector of the cathedral of Cordoba, died in Spain. A month after his funeral, a wet spot appeared on the eastern wall of the temple, near the place where the funeral was held, the outlines of which resembled the face of the deceased. The abbot's initials were visible below. According to eyewitnesses, the Cordoba phenomenon remained visible for several days and then disappeared.
A similar phenomenon (albeit longer in time) in 1976 was observed in the Paraguayan capital Asuncion, in the church of St. Teresa. In the morning, parishioners who came to Mass saw a profile on a white, recently plastered wall, reminiscent of the priest of the same church, Signor Rodrigo de la Peña, who had died several years ago.
The image appeared next to a plaque nailed in memory of the priest. The locals, who loved Rodrigo's father, claimed that his portrait had the ability to heal people. Crowds of sick and crippled people were drawn to the church, believing that it was worth touching the miraculous image and their ailments would disappear.
Mothers brought babies, put them on the "holy portrait", begging Father Rodrigo to "show a miracle." Until now, women remember that after such sessions their babies cried less and did not get sick.
Suddenly the image disappeared. Many parishioners of the Church of St. Teresa do not doubt that the reason was the blasphemous act of a certain citizen who, with the help of Father Rodrigo, wished to cure his chronic hemorrhoids. The wicked man climbed onto the stepladder and, pulling down his pants, put a sore spot on the "miraculous" profile.
Suddenly a woman's scream caused the man to fall down the stairs. The old woman, hurrying to the church of St. Teresa in the hope of recovering from migraines and insomnia, seeing what the "vile bastard" was doing, could not contain a surge of indignation. The people came to her screams. Having learned what he was doing near the portrait, fellow citizens beat him hard.
Smearing blood and tears on his face, he resented the fact that all the curses and blows went to him alone, while he himself saw that some parishioners treated women's diseases and impotence in the same way. However, the next day, the image of Rodrigo's father disappeared.
Many blamed the unfortunate patient for the incident, "who angered the holy father with his disgusting touch." Others believed that Father Rodrigo thus “reacted” to the fight that the parishioners had at the entrance to the church. However, most likely, there was a simple coincidence, since a few days later the portrait of the priest appeared again - albeit on a different wall and not in profile, as before, but full face.
To avoid new unpleasant incidents, a high fence was erected near the wall with the image of Rodrigo's father, which later had to be dragged from place to place, since the portrait "walked" along the entire facade, not staying for a long time anywhere.
Lick of a nun at a subway station
In the late 90s, a woman's face appeared on the wall of one of the subway stations in Mexico City, completely hidden by a monk's scarf. Thousands of residents of the Mexican capital rushed to gaze at the curiosity.
Many claimed that the image of the Virgin Mary herself appeared to them, and after scientists were convinced that the unusual portrait was not the creation of human hands, believing citizens nailed under the wonderful face a shelf on which they put candles and laid flowers.
Inquisitive and meticulous scientists managed to find out that on the place where the metro was built, there was a nunnery 200 years ago and there was a cemetery where novices and nuns were buried. Subsequently, it was destroyed by an earthquake. The elements raged suddenly, and many nuns, not having time to escape, found eternal rest under the rubble of their monastery.
Residents of Mexico City claim that images of women's faces periodically appear on the walls of houses located next to the territory of the former monastery. Most likely, the untimely deceased inhabitants thus want to remind of themselves.
