The international team of ghost hunters (Ghost Hunters International), having visited the Liepaja prison in Karosta, recognized that this place is one of the most densely populated ghosts in the world

According to the head of the Liepaja Region Tourism Information Office, Monte Krafte, the ghost hunters' program about the Karosta prison was recently shown in the USA. Now it can also be viewed on the home page of the Karosta prison -

In the program, ghostbusters acknowledge that Karosta Prison is one of the most active places in the context of the paranormal. Ghostbusters managed not only to make contact with the ghost - to hear, feel and see it, but also to state the presence of the ghost using special techniques.

After research by the International Team of Ghostbusters, interest in the Karosta prison may increase, its leadership admits. Therefore, the creative team of the prison is preparing a new proposal for tourists - "In the footsteps of the ghost hunters."

Filming in the former military prison of Karosta took place in the strictest secrecy. The team, which arrived from California, categorically refused to contact the Latvian press - this is the strict requirement of American producers. So it was very difficult to find out the details of the work of the "hunters" even on the spot.

In Liepaja, the Americans worked for five days - from Monday to Friday. On Thursday, when the creators of the program were sleeping in the hotel and watching the working material, filmed for three days and three nights of continuous watch, I managed to get into the building of the former guardhouse.

… In winter, the empty and gloomy old building looks downright ominous. This is during the theatrical shows for tourists and just excursions, it is crowded and noisy. February is not a season. It's cold in the dark corridors now. And stomping along the empty corridors, here you just shudder from the echo of your own steps.

Software student Christer Crafts, who helped organize the filming and as an interpreter, told me that although Americans are tough pros in terms of meeting ghosts, they also felt uncomfortable in the ominous night corridors.

White lady, who are you?

This story happened under the Germans, when the guardhouse served as a prison for civilians and many townspeople were shot here. Including for completely insignificant offenses.

It is said that in the fall of 1944, during a document check, a certain young man was imprisoned shortly before his own wedding. He managed to convey a note to the bride: they say, I'm alive, I'll be back, wait, everything will be fine. But he didn’t return on time.

Then, using all her feminine charm, his bride entered the prison. And upon learning that the guy had been shot the day before, she committed suicide - right in the cell, where she hoped to find him.

Since then, the ghost of the girl periodically reminds of herself. She is the White Lady of Liepaja. Cell # 18 has been considered a bad place ever since. Most often it is closed. They say that during the Soviet guardhouse, strange things happened here too.

Once a malicious violator of the charter - drunk just into the smoke - was closed so that he could sleep off in a day. The poor fellow was already more sober than sober in twenty minutes - he begged to be transferred to another cell. Another time - already in modern times - the Latvian soldier from the "bad" cell was taken straight … to Durka.

Christer himself has been working as a guide in Karosta prison for six years. He, like all his colleagues, also knows about the White Lady and also gave a short interview for the Americans' program.

One day a group of tourists was expected, and he lit candles in an empty hallway. When there was a clatter of heels around the corner, at first I was not scared. But at that moment, when I realized that my colleagues were all waiting in the yard, my heart simply sank from instant horror. Trying hard not to run and without turning around, he strode towards the stairs. And clear steps were heard behind. Colleagues, indeed, were all on the street - who then tapped his heels after fractional?..
