For a couple from New York State, the evening of April 3, 1996 was very unusual - they managed to see the large Hale-Bopp comet, a total eclipse of the moon and a UFO flight.

Heading home from Burlington to Port Henry, they headed west toward Lake Champlain. It was a clear evening, and the couple had a stunning view of the lake and the Adirondack mountains.

“Suddenly a white and yellow luminous sphere appeared in the sky. She walked slowly across the sky in front of us - the couple watched for a long time a bright object that moved in a straight trajectory from south to north, parallel to the lake. "And then, just before we lost sight of her, she began to descend in a small downward arc."

An object the size of a solar disk at midday, flying directly over the ridge, left behind a thick trail of bright white-yellow sparks.

“The tail behind the sphere was so long that at one point it stretched out to about two-thirds of the sky. It burst from the left half of the sphere and, approaching the end, looked like a cone with a ball of ice cream. The right front part of the sphere did not emit any sparks or flames, - according to the couple, they watched the object for about 30 seconds, after which, without making a sound, it disappeared into the distance.

Upon returning home, they wrote down everything in detail in a notebook and called the local radio station to report it. But the station was not interested in this kind of information. Then they made a call to the police, which finally accepted their report and invited them to a meeting. The duty officer contacted the airport, where they were told that nothing was observed on the radars and that it might have been a meteorite.

“But it was not a meteorite,” say eyewitnesses, who are still looking for an explanation for the strange incident. "He was not racing down, he was moving horizontally, too slow to be a meteorite."
