Late in the evening of August 18, 1783, four people standing on the terrace of Windsor Castle watched a luminous object flying in the sky, which could very well be a UFO.

This drawing was made at the direction of Thomas Sandby, founder of the British Royal Academy of Sciences, by Brother Paul, who witnessed the event.

A message that appeared in the scientific journal Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society in 1784 read:

“The oblong cloud was moving almost parallel to the horizon. In this cloud, one could see an object that looked like a bright luminous ball, which suddenly stopped. At first glance, it seemed that this strange sphere had a pale blue color, but then its brightness increased. She soon headed east again. Then the object changed direction and, moving parallel to the horizon, headed southeast and disappeared. It was so bright that it illuminated everything on earth."

According to records from the scientific archives of Great Britain, the figure shows "a meteorite that flew by on August 18, 1783". Subsequently, Thomas Sandby made an engraving from the watercolors made by his brother Paul.

It is believed that King George III watched a very bright shooting star, which was called a fireball, from the terrace of the Royal Palace of Windsor Castle.

A dazzlingly bright meteorite, which disintegrated into several parts, was visible throughout England. Since then, many believe it was not a simple meteorite.
