The petroglyphs located on the eastern coast of Lake Onega date back to the 4th-2nd millennium BC. Discovered in 1848. By 1973, 18 independent groups of images were identified, stretching along the capes (Besov nos, Perinos, etc.) and islands for 20 kilometers. There are about 1200 drawings in total, often combined into compositions. These are images of birds, forest animals, people and boats. The figures are up to 4 meters in size. There are incomprehensible figures, the famous triad at Cape Besov Nos: "demon", catfish (burbot) and otter (lizard). A large number of signs are distinguished in the form of a circle or a crescent with two rays. Most scientists consider them to be solar and lunar signs. Drawings move in the rays of the setting sun. The ancient inhabitants of Onega made a discovery, which contains a hint of future "living pictures" - modern cinema. Scientists recognizethat the meaning of the Karelian petroglyphs is still a mystery to them. So far, unfortunately, the content of the "stone book" remains inaccessible.
