On Earth, absolutely amazing things are periodically discovered - from ancient cities that overturn our understanding of history, to objects that remain covered with complete darkness to this day. Here are 12 of the most amazing archaeological finds.
1. Mount Owen Moa
The moa was a flightless bird and became extinct about 500 years ago. Therefore, the researchers were shocked when they found such a huge and so well-preserved moa paw in one of the caves of Mount Owen in New Zealand. This find is more than 3000 years old.
2. Lunyu Grottoes
These caves, carved by man in fine-grained sandstone, are located in China and to this day represent some mystery. They were created long before the reign of the Qin dynasty in the 3rd century BC. e., however, no mention of them is found.

3. Gate of the Sun
It's like Stonehenge. The Gate of the Sun is a very mysterious stone structure. They are located at an altitude of 3825 meters above sea level in Bolivia - possibly from here the first people on Earth originate. In addition, the images on the gate, apparently, had some astrological and astronomical value.
4. L'Anse aux Meadows
This 1,000-year-old settlement in Newfoundland, Canada proves that the Vikings reached North America long before Christopher Columbus was born.
5. Göbekli Tepe
This temple complex, located in the Armenian Highlands in Turkey, has given humanity a lot in its understanding of ancient customs. The temple was built earlier than the city around it, which shows how important the cult was to the inhabitants of the city.
6. The Voynich manuscript
The Voynich manuscript is still a mystery, starting with many speculations about what language it was written in. In 2014, two groups of scientists at once came up with the assumption that they had solved this riddle. The only problem was that their views were completely different. One group claimed that it was an extinct Mexican dialect, another that it was a cipher text in some Asian language.
7. Underwater city Yonaguni
to this day, there is debate about whether these underwater structures with many flat surfaces and right angles are man-made, or whether they were created by nature itself. They are located off the coast of Yonaguni Island (Japan).
8. Tunnels of the Stone Age
This huge network of tunnels is man-made and dates back to the Stone Age. It remains to be seen how the people of that time could have created such an extensive and complex system.
9. Stone balls of Costa Rica
Costa Rica has hundreds of granodiorite balls, ranging from very small (3-4 cm) to large (3 m) in diameter. Archaeologists have no idea what they were for or by whom.
10. Unfinished obelisk in Egypt
This obelisk was carved out of the rock, but after cracks passed through the granite, the construction of the obelisk was never completed.
11. Mohenjo-Daro
This site in Pakistan's Sindh province is one of the earliest urban settlements to show signs of urban planning, social organization and drainage. About 40,000 people lived in the ancient city.
12. Sacsayhuaman
These stones and boulders in the city of Cuzco, Peru are so tightly fitted together without any joint mortar that it is impossible to put anything between the two stones.
