At the American medical center Beth Israel announced a supercomputer, which examines large amounts of data, is able to calculate the date of death of a patient.

The forecast is reported to be 96% accurate. However, while this applies to patients with severe forms of disease, whose death is expected within a month.

The project is led by Dr. Steve Horng, who explained that a computer certainly does not replace a doctor, but it can help him. The computer contains information on more than 250 thousand clinical cases over the past 30 years.

The computer program compares this information with the vital signs of the patient's body - pressure, oxygen level in the blood, blood biochemistry data, etc. This helps to very quickly diagnose and even determine how long the patient can still last if the case is very difficult.

Using data on what happened to other patients over the past years with similar symptoms and analyzes, the computer predicts the development of an event for a particular patient today.

However, as Horng noted, doctors try not to use a computer to predict the date of death, since its main task is to help the doctor correctly diagnose. In particular, the computer can detect rare or hidden diseases that the doctor might not notice.
