In the war of the future, robots will make tactical decisions, and people will only watch. According to American military experts, there will be fewer people in the war, but they will be improved technologically or genetically.
The main role in the wars of the future will belong to robots, not to humans - according to technology expert Patrick Tucker, this is the main conclusion of American military experts, voiced in the report "Vision of tactical ground combat in 2050". Due to the significantly increased rhythm of hostilities, people will be left out of decision-making.
In an article for Defense One, Tucker notes that this runs counter to the current setup of the American army. At the moment, the use of drones is always controlled by a person and it is the person who makes the decision to strike.
According to the report, in the future, people will be assigned the role of observers. The vertical organization of the armed forces will be replaced by a large-scale self-organizing system in which people will exist side by side with robots, which, in turn, will be able to unite into group bots.
The second important conclusion contained in the report, according to the expert, is that there will be fewer people on the battlefield than now, but they will be "improved". For an effective battle, along with robots, super-humans will be equipped with exoskeletons, implants, their sensory and cognitive functions will be improved technologically or through genetic modification.
Although the military is currently denying interest in surgical and genetic manipulation of the human body, the authors of the report point out that many of the components required for such "improvement" are actively developing - despite possible ethical or legal conflicts.
At the same time, the report suggests that the use of sensors could be a vulnerability of the army. With access to data from sensors, the enemy will be able to analyze the biophysical activity of the US troops and, possibly, influence their brain activity and decision-making.
