Health professionals in Germany are perplexed by the small village where cancer has struck almost every family. The village of Vevelsfleth, with a population of 1,500, has been dubbed the "Village of the Damned" because of the 50 percent higher cancer incidence among residents.
Researchers at the University of Lübeck, investigating the problem, have been unable to find any reason for such an anomaly, although residents themselves blame the nearby nuclear station and factory, which uses highly toxic paint to paint ships.
In addition to blaming the nuclear plant, they also cite the nearby plant, asbestos slate used to cover garage roofs, electrosmog from power lines, and the lifestyle of cancer victims as reasons.
