In early July 2012, a group of the Kosmopoisk association from Vologda organized a reconnaissance expedition to another promising, from their point of view, object in the Cherepovets district.

If you believe numerous encyclopedias and reference books, then Lake Kolodnoye, which is located in the Vologda region, has its own brother of the famous Scottish Nessie. The stories of local residents created the image of a mysterious self-propelled log with a huge toothy mouth. Allegedly, driven to despair by the Russian reality, the creature does not disdain fishermen and tourists. After reviewing this information, which is more like a teenage horror movie, the members of the Vologda-Kosmopoisk group concluded that the information needed to be verified and clarified.

During the preparation and conduct of the expedition, several unexpected obstacles had to be overcome. First, the lake itself unexpectedly turned out to be in another area - Cherepovetsky, and it was called Kolodensky, not Kolodny. Secondly, it turned out that mystical stories are connected with another body of water - Lake. Black. Well, and, thirdly, I had to move through a very swampy area, risking turning the expedition into a rescue operation to retrieve a stumbled search engine from a dangerous quagmire.

On the other hand, the local forester confirmed that numerous local residents saw through the muddy water the “driftwood” (a large log) changing its location. One man threw the unbelted "log" into the water, and the other was dragged in a boat along the lake. Fishermen and women, rinsing linen in the water, watched the movement of a large creature even close to the coast. According to the forester himself, there is no population of miraculously survived dinosaurs in the lake - it's worth sinning on a huge pike. This assumption was prompted by fins on the back, which were seen by people colliding with the fish. By the way, in burbots and catfish, which can also reach very large sizes, the dorsal fin, according to the forester, is absent.

But the members of "Cosmopoisk" were in no hurry to be satisfied with the explanation about the "royal pike" and carefully examined the lake from a boat. Alas, the creature sat out in those days in deep places and never got caught in the camera lens. The collected information was summed up by Yulia Vopseva, the leader of the expedition: “The giant pike may well turn out to be not a pike, as it looks like a log according to the descriptions, but with a dorsal fin. Taking into account the nature and temperature of the water, as well as the surrounding area, it is quite possible for the development of both giant fishes, similar to snags, and other organisms in this lake”.

It was decided not to write off Lake Black as a place where a creature unknown to science can hide. Some eyewitness accounts collected earlier do not fit into the version of the pike. For the cryptozological direction of "Cosmopoisk", the undisclosed secrets of the depths of this place are still of interest, although they will be revealed only by a pike's command …
