On some sections of the road, it is better to trust your vestibular apparatus. not the eyes: a landscape can make a person believe that high is low, and vice versa. There are dozens of places on Earth where gravity seems to be out of tune: in order to descend from a hill, cyclists in such places have to pedal, and in neutral, rolling up the slope. Previously, these miracles were explained by the tricks of witches, then - by huge magnets and mysterious government experiments. One of these "gravity hills" is located in Ireland. The slope of the road in this place is small, but noticeable: pedestrians and cyclists feel it, and the driver can be deceived. The road “downhill” requires much more effort here than going uphill.

Surveyors came here with a theodolite and found out that in fact there is no contradiction: that section of the road that seems to be the foot of the hill is more than 30 meters higher above sea level than what appears to be its top. But the eyes refuse to believe it.

It seems that the car is going up the slope. Yes - but only in relation to the stripes on the board, and not in relation to the actual height difference.
