An incredible web was discovered in a suburb of Dallas, Texas by entomologist Mike Merchant. He stumbled upon the net quite by accident while walking through Rowlett's Lakeside Park South.

The web turned out to be so large that it completely draped all the trees growing along the football field. According to experts, at least a thousand spiders worked on its creation.

Experts have already estimated the scale of the find: such an impressive web has been found for the first time. A similar sized network was found in 2007 in Tavakoni National Park in the same state. Then it was woven by tetragnatid spiders from the Tetragnatha guatemalensis family, creating unique round webs.

So far, scientists cannot say for sure why the spiders are joining forces and weaving such large-scale networks. However, there is a version that this enhances the effectiveness of their hunting.

Despite their terrible appearance and impressive size, tetragnatids do not pose a threat to humans, so the researchers urged local residents to save a huge web.
