Many areas of lunar interest were deliberately darkened, as if NASA and the Navy were hiding something large. This is clearly visible in the images from the Rainer Gamma region, an area 40 miles west of Reiner Crater. The official explanation for the shaded area was "data loss", but we all know that is not the case.
