The Bible is full of mystery and controversy

Genesis, for example, begins with a story of the creation of the world, given with absolute geological precision. But how did the narrator know that the appearance of minerals precedes plants, and plants - animals?

“And God said: let us make man in our image, in our likeness,” we read in the Book of Genesis (1, 26).

Why does God use the plural? Why does he say “we” and not “I”, “ours” and not “mine”? After all, God, the one and only, must address humanity in the singular, not in the plural.

“When people began to multiply on the earth, and daughters were born to them, then the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were beautiful, and took them as their wives, whatever they chose” (Genesis 6: 1–2).

Who can tell us what kind of “sons of God” they were who took the daughters of men as their wives? There was only one God in ancient Israel. Where did the "sons of God" come from?

“At that time there were giants on earth, especially since the time when the sons of God began to enter the daughters of men, and they began to give birth to them. They were strong, glorious people from ancient times”(Genesis 6: 4).

And again we meet with the "sons of God." Here we first meet the mention of giants. Giants arise in any part of the world: in the mythology of the East and West, in the legends of Tuahuanako and in the Eskimo epic. Giants are found on the pages of almost every ancient book. This means they had to exist.

In the evening, Father Lot was sitting at the city gate, two "angels" appeared in Sodom. It can be assumed that Lot was expecting these "angels", very much like people, because he immediately recognized them and hospitably offered to spend the night in his house. The townspeople, as the Bible says, decided to "get to know" the aliens. But two strangers were able to resolutely stop the sexual inclinations of local playboys: they struck the impudent blind.

In accordance with the Book of Genesis, the "angels" advised Lot to take his wife, sons, daughters, sons-in-law and daughters-in-law and leave the city as soon as possible, for, as they warned him, it would be destroyed soon. The family refused to take this strange warning seriously, considering it one of Lot's father's bad jokes. And the Book of Genesis continues:

“When dawn came up, the angels began to rush Lot, saying, Get up, take your wife and your two daughters that are with you, so that you will not perish for the iniquity of the city.

And as he delayed, those men, by the grace of the Lord, took his hands, and his wife, and his two daughters, and brought him out and set him outside the city.

When they were taken out, one of them said: Save your soul; do not look back, and do not stop anywhere in this vicinity; save yourself on the mountain so that you do not die … Hurry, save yourself there; for I cannot do the work until you come there”(Genesis 15-17, 22).

Then why were his "angels" in such a hurry? Was it possible that some force that swept the city off the face of the earth had to fall upon it at a strictly defined moment? Has the countdown already begun, and the "angels" knew about it? Hence, the destruction of the city was inevitable. And under the circumstances, was there an easier method by which Lot's family could be saved? Why did they have to be sent to the mountains in any way? And why, for heaven's sake, were they forbidden to look around?

We have to admit that these are very uncomfortable questions concerning serious matters. But after two atomic bombs fell on Japan, we know the nature of the destruction that they can cause, and we know that living things that have come under direct radiation impact die or become terminally ill. Let's imagine for a moment that by design, Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed by a direct nuclear strike. Maybe - let us think a little more - the "angels" wanted to get rid of some amount of fissile material and at the same time destroy the human offspring, which they considered unpleasant and dangerous. The time of the explosion was strictly determined. Those who had to escape, like Lot's family, had to be several miles from the epicenter of the explosion in the mountains, because the rocky rock cover absorbed dangerous nuclear radiation. But - we know this story from the Bible - Lot's wife turned around and looked at the atomic sun. Today, no one would be surprised to hear that she died on the spot. “And the Lord rained sulfur and fire on Sodom and Gomorrah …” And this is how the story of the catastrophe ends (Gen. 19, 27-28): “And Abraham got up early in the morning and went to the place where he stood before the face of the Lord. And he looked to Sodom and Gomorrah, and to all the space around him, and saw: behold, smoke rises from the ground like smoke from a furnace.“And the Lord rained sulfur and fire on Sodom and Gomorrah …” And this is how the story of the catastrophe ends (Gen. 19, 27-28): “And Abraham got up early in the morning and went to the place where he stood before the face of the Lord. And he looked to Sodom and Gomorrah, and to all the space around him, and saw: behold, smoke rises from the ground like smoke from a furnace."

With all our desire, we cannot imagine an omnipotent, omnipresent, infinitely merciful God who rules over the entire length of time and at the same time does not know what is about to happen.

God created man and was completely satisfied with his work. Then it seems that his actions disgusted him, and the creator decided to end humanity?
