A resident of Australia survived in the wilderness for 12 days and waited for help. It is reported by ABC.
Tamra McBeath-Riley, 52, took her dog Raya with two companions, Claire Hockridge and Phu Tran, on a road trip in mid-November to the remote reaches of the Northern Territory. At some point, their car got stuck in a dry riverbed. The Australians tried to push her out several times, but they failed.
During the sweltering heat of the day, when temperatures rose above 40 degrees Celsius, the three hid under the car and slept in the car at night. For the first three days, they ate instant noodles and cookies, taken with them, and washed down the food with water and cocktails with vodka.
When the food ran out and it became clear that there was nowhere to wait for help, the Australians decided to walk to the nearest human settlement themselves, leaving a note on the hood of the car. They found an underground source one and a half kilometers from the car. They boiled water and filtered it through their clothes. Then the trio split up - McBeath-Riley stayed by the water, because she was afraid that the dog would not stand the transition in the heat, and her friends with a compass and GPS tracker went to look for people.
As a result, rescuers found McBeath-Riley on Sunday, December 1. The woman admitted that by that time she had not eaten anything for five days. She was hospitalized with dehydration and sunburn.
Claire Hawkridge and Fu Trana continue to search. McBeath-Riley admitted that she feared for their fate, as they took only six liters of water for two.
