In the English city of Dagenham, a woman had a heart failure for three minutes after being bitten by a mosquito. The Daily Mirror newspaper reports.
Kim Robinson, 25, recalls feeling a sharp pain in her right ankle from an insect bite. “The site of the bite itched and became inflamed the next day,” she says. - But I did not attach much importance to this. It seemed to me that I would take an antibiotic and everything would go away."
Every day the leg continued to become inflamed, and at some point, Robinson found it difficult to walk. “I was losing consciousness all the time,” she explained. Then the woman went to the hospital, where she was diagnosed with necrotizing fasciitis, an infection caused by the bacteria Streptococcus pyogenes or Clostridium perfringens. Doctors warned that the patient needs urgent surgery and risks being left without a leg.
Due to the infection, the British woman developed sepsis. During the operation, her lung condition deteriorated and her heart stopped. She was forced into an artificial coma for five days. “I woke up and didn't realize I was in a coma,” Robinson admitted. "When my ex-lover showed the date on the calendar, I was shocked."
During the rehabilitation process, the patient had to learn to talk and walk. Robinson stayed in the hospital for five weeks, after which she was transferred to another medical facility for a skin graft on her leg. “It's so scary that it all started with a simple mosquito bite. I am very sorry that I did not immediately go to the doctors. Now my kids wear mosquito patches on their hands,”concluded Robinson.
