A wedding is always a very troublesome business, and if it is a wedding in Russia, then it is not just a holiday, but a real magic ritual. The most important danger in a Russian wedding was damage.
Such damage was induced, as a rule, out of envy. Bridesmaids secretly hated their friend for getting married earlier.
The effects of damage could take many forms. It could be serious quarrels of young people, infidelity, sexual impotence or inability to give birth. Children could be born weak, or even dead.
Damage could be done at any time, and therefore the bride's parents closely watched their daughter. For example, only the mother could help to put on the dress. Any knot tied could lead to disaster. Sometimes damage was induced right in the church, the attacker touched the bride and immediately after that the young quarrels began.
Sometimes the road in front of the young people was poured with dead water. This is the water with which the deceased was washed. It was forbidden to pass between the young, such an action could destroy the marriage of treason. At the table, the young did not have to speak, and food was prepared for them separately and under supervision, since they often conjured for food.
Often spoilage was done for wedding gifts. Sometimes even for wedding rings. When young people walked home, they could throw needles, hair or bones at their feet. Therefore, the road was constantly shaken. The groom had to bring the bride into the house without stepping on the threshold. The needle hidden in the threshold possessed a strong destructive effect.
Many healers did damage by throwing earth from the baby's grave, under the wedding bed. This was done to kill the firstborn. Usually the bedroom was well guarded. Often, the relatives themselves put the spoils on the young.
The union of two people often brought warring families together. And some family defenders tried to take revenge in this way. For protection, kitchen utensils or logs were placed under the bed. The fact is that sometimes, in order to remove damage, it was necessary to turn to sorcerers and grandmothers.
