Very often in Russian fairy tales and epics, Buyan Island is mentioned. It is located … yes, there are many where it was located. And in the Black Sea, and in the Baltic, and even in the Arctic Ocean (the latter seems to be true: a real island in the Severnaya Zemlya archipelago discovered in the 20th century was named after the mythical island.
Be that as it may in real life, Buyan Island plays a significant role in Russian folklore. Its name sounds not only in sayings and fairy tales, but also in conspiracies, in ritual songs and so on. In general, this place is sacred. The island is endowed with miraculous power, magical things are stored on it that help fairy-tale heroes fight evil (a mystical oak grows on the island, in the branches of which the death of Koshchei is hidden). There is also a sacred stone alatyr on the island denoting the center of the world: whoever manages to find this stone, all desires come true.
The location of this island is often called in legends - the mythical country of Belovodye, where immortal sages live, guarding our world and helping people.
To tell the truth, these legends no longer interested me too much: as a child I was fond of Russian folk tales and epics, re-read a great many of them and knew about a wonderful country, and about an island, and even about a wonderful stone alatyr. Such knowledge is natural for a native speaker of the language and culture, fairy tales are absorbed with mother's milk.
But, as you know, I like to search the net for all sorts of mystical things in the hope of "catching the muse." And then Buyan presented a surprise! And what a!
In general, I read Mongolian myths. Link by link, click by click and the Internet The Almighty and All-Knowing gave me information about the White Island, which, according to the oldest legend, existed in the Gobi Desert. True, then it was not yet a desert, a warm sea splashed on this place, and there was an island in that sea. Guess the name? That's right, White. White Island! And stately and beautiful people lived on it, the descendants of a disappeared civilization (Hyperboreans or Atlanteans, or Aryans - opinions differ here. They agree on one thing: these creatures gave rise to our civilization, sharing their technologies with dark people, and in general, taught them everything. And to plow the earth, and to burn the clay, and to everything, everything, everything. The cradle of humanity, in general).
