On the shores of the Sea of Okhotsk near Magadan, a mass death of puffin gulls has been recorded, ITAR-TASS reports. More than sixty dead birds have been found within a week.
According to the head of the Department of Civil Defense and Emergency Situations of Magadan, Colonel Sergei Zhukov, all dead dead ends were found in the area of the Nagaev Bay. Rescuers from the Emergencies Ministry also examine Gertner Bay and Cape Misunderstanding, over which seagulls most often circle. The investigation is also being carried out by specialists from Rospotrebnadzor and Rosprirodnadzor working in Magadan. Earlier a version was expressed that the bird flu could be the cause of death of birds. However, laboratory tests have established that the birds did not die from the virus.
At the same time, the likelihood of avian influenza still cannot be ruled out, because there is no specially equipped laboratory in Magadan that can 100% determine the presence of the virus in the body of birds. The elucidation of the reasons for the mass deaths of dead ends in Kolyma continues, the National News Agency reports.
In 2005, in the Far East, there was a similar mass death of birds in the area of the Khalaktyrsky airfield in the suburbs of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. In that case, doctors also argued that the seagulls did not die from the bird flu. And in 2006, gulls began to die en masse on the Black Sea coast of the Krasnodar Territory in the area from Dzhubga to Novorossiysk. However, studies have shown that the Black Sea gulls died of starvation. According to experts, the birds were simply left without food: because of the cold weather, the fish went to the bottom.
