As you know, pride in Christianity is a sin that led to the fall of Lucifer, who later became Satan. Pride is usually understood as arrogance, arrogance, the property of a person to put himself above everyone else and recognize the legitimacy of only his position. According to the aforementioned religion, this is the most serious of the seven deadly sins, which entailed all the others. And why is psychotherapy against pride?

Pride is a consequence of the principles and beliefs that have developed throughout our life. And when they say to a girl who, every time after hesitations, still forgives betrayal to her chosen one: "You have no pride!" actions. From the point of view of psychotherapy, we are “zombified” by our culture, family, lifestyle, stereotypes that have developed over the years, and the morality of society. And pride prevents us from throwing off these shackles at the right time, realizing and recognizing what we really do not want to admit, understanding what we really want in this situation.

For example, a person who is convinced that he must definitely win in competitions / be the most beautiful / do something better than everyone else, faced with unwanted results, experiences a puff of pride. Or a girl convinced that it is impossible to be the first to call a young man will eventually experience an ever-growing lump of pride, never having heard the longed-for call. It is he who is bad, he is wrong, he must understand her principles and correspond to them, and not she change her attitudes. Here it is, pure pride.

Thus, pride acts as a kind of "salvation", a protective mechanism that allows a person to preserve himself, his ideas about the world, when it is high time to look at it more broadly, change outdated and ossified beliefs, open himself to the world. But why do this? Why leave it as it is? The fact is that a person generally strives to preserve himself, changes occur rarely, with great difficulty and a lot of wasted resources. The question is: why change, if you are already at the very least adapted to this world?

Many people really think so, stop themselves in development or even degrade. Others find meaning in this, strive to constantly learn about the world and change themselves for the better. Any living creature on the planet, like all creatures that exist and have existed in the world, contains the principle of development. Developing both in the process of evolution and during its short life, each creature can adapt much better to the world, create more opportunities for itself, and make its life meaningful.

The fight against pride is, first of all, liberation from the shackles of "zombie", from the stereotypes imposed by society. Overcoming pride means becoming the subject of your life. Each person should normally control it, the way he controls the left hand or right. A person, not burdened with pride, chooses for himself what to think about, what emotions to experience in a given situation. As he develops and becomes the subject of his life, he ceases to feel the need for pride as a mechanism that supports his principles. He is open to the world and open to his desires. Not momentary whims, but precisely desires, needs, for the sake of which he is ready to experience hardships now. And if a girl who needs reliability and fidelity in a relationship and is open to her needs stops feeling proud, this does not meanthat she will "lose her last pride" and forgive the partner who betrayed her - she will not return to him because she knows what she really wants from life. She no longer needs pride to be happy.

Get rid of pride, because pride brings with it constant grievances, conflicts with loved ones; it does not allow solving problems productively and is a sign of egocentrism, which does not allow a person to go forward on the path of development of his personality. How to get rid of pride? Start by revising your principles and beliefs, your "must" and "must" and try to replace them with "I want" and "I would like to." To discover these painful beliefs that give rise to pride, in the most common situations in life, look for the thought that makes you feel hurt or irritated.

If you allow yourself to let go of the control that prevents you from realizing this thought for a while, if you want to be frank with yourself, then you can definitely find the core of your troubles. Do not condemn in thoughts and words people who, in your opinion, have committed immoral acts: after all, your point of view is not the only one and not the most correct one, it is simply different. Do not consider people something owed or owed to you personally or to the world in general - it is not so. Try to do good in secret, hidden from people. After all, good for the sake of someone knowing about it is not selfless: this is also the result of pride.
