In September 2018, more than 2,000 people died on the island of Sulawesi in Indonesia when a tsunami earthquake destroyed the city of Palu. The volcanoes of Indonesia also belong to the Ring of Fire.
In early December, an earthquake struck Alaska, whose center was just 7 miles from Anchorage. No fatalities were reported, but the earthquake damaged many roads and homes.

All these terrible cataclysms frightened many people, including influential Israeli rabbis, who, after the tsunami, started talking even more actively about the impending biblical Apocalypse.
