The existence of aliens has been a hot topic of controversy for a long time. While many people can safely accept the fact that, given the vast expanses of the universe around us, alien life is possible, these same people have a hard time accepting the idea of aliens actually flying in their intergalactic ship and descending non-earth for a friendly (or not particularly friendly) visit. Alien encounters are difficult to find in authentic archival documents, but they do exist. One of the strangest recorded reports is the infamous disappearance of Valentich.
On October 21, 1978, Frederic Valentich was flying his Cessna 821L on a 125-mile training flight over Bass Strait en route to King Island, Australia, when he told air traffic controllers he had just been attacked by a UFO.
Frederick said the ship had green lights and asked if a military jet was following him or if someone was playing a trick on him. Valentich said that something was wrong with the engine of his plane, and that this ship was hovering and was definitely not an ordinary aircraft. Then there was a strange metallic scraping noise, and this was the last time anyone saw or heard of Frederic Valentich. After a two-week investigation, the Ministry of Transport determined that they could not explain Valentich's disappearance.
On the same evening, numerous Australian citizens called with reports of UFO sightings, many of them reporting a strange green light in the sky, which lends some credibility to Valentine's emergency call and creates a lot of fuss around the incident, especially from UFO fans. There were even a few eyewitnesses who watched Valentich's plane fly in the sky, towed by a green light.
Despite his father's assertion that Fred was not inclined to write false stories, some skeptics speculate that Valentich faked his disappearance and landed the plane safely somewhere else. While it undoubtedly, perhaps, it seems unlikely that someone did an attention-getting trick and never came back to demand attention. If Fred was running away from someone or something and wanted to disappear, a deliberate UFO hoax (which most would not believe) to cover it up makes far less sense than a simple engine malfunction.
A more reasonable claim from skeptics is that Fred simply went off course, imagined something strange, and collapsed into the sea. Some say that Fred saw strange lights because he was piloting an upside-down plane and saw the plane's reflection in the water. But how does this explain the eyewitness accounts supporting Fred's story?
While UFOs are not always associated with aliens, many believe that creatures from outer space were directly responsible for the unexplained disappearance of Frederic Valentich. UFO means an unidentified flying object, and does not indicate exactly what kind of creature is piloting the device - it could be a person or someone else. After looking at the facts, it seems clear that Fred was indeed dragged by a strange green light just before he disappeared without a trace, and it's easy to see why Fred called him a UFO - after all, it was a flying object that he couldn't identify.
One alternative explanation is that Fred was pursued for some reason by the latest military aircraft, and for this reason Fred died or disappeared irrevocably.
