In the early morning of November 12, residents of Novosibirsk noticed the mysterious shining pillars that formed in the area of Tolmachevo airport. The rays of light seemed to float in the air, resembling either the "northern lights" or UFO searchlights.
One of the Novosibirsk residents wrote on social networks that he took the pillars of light for illumination made by the administration of the local airport, but noticed a plane landing. The airliner also "created" a shining beam when it aimed its searchlight at the runway. The column of light moved with the plane. The light "show" disappeared with dawn.
The representative of the Novosibirsk Planetarium noted that these light columns have nothing to do with the "northern lights", especially with UFOs. This is an atmospheric phenomenon based on the physical laws of refraction of light from city lanterns and searchlights, which is refracted in a special way in crystals of ice floes in the air. Such illumination can usually be seen in clear, cloudless and frosty weather.
