On an ancient map called "The New and Most Accurate Description of America or the Fourth of the World," the shorter "California," a mermaid was found holding a flying saucer.
Considered one of the earliest wall maps of America, the map was drawn in 1562 by the Spanish cartographer Diego Gutierrez and the Flemish artist Hieronymus Cock. It depicts ships, giants, and cannibals burning victims at the stake. And at the bottom of the map there are two mermaids clutching objects that look very much like flying saucers.
The map, a copy of which is at the Library of Congress in the United States and is a richly illustrated view of America, is filled with drawings and names that were popular in Europe after Columbus discovered America in 1492.
The description for it says: "A map with numerous names of settlements, rivers, mountains and sea capes, replete with images of parrots, monkeys, mermaids, terrible sea creatures, cannibals, Patagonian giants and an erupting volcano in central Mexico."
But, unfortunately, nowhere is it indicated why mermaids are holding UFOs. It is possible that the secret of this ancient map has yet to be revealed.
