There are quite a few such stone mushrooms in the Crimean valley of Soter. This is not surprising - after all, very active geological processes are taking place underground on the peninsula. However, geologists still cannot fully understand what caused this strange phenomenon.
According to the president of the Crimean Academy of Sciences Viktor Tarasenko, such strange structures are the result of a variety of geological processes. The scientist calls it "a variegated geological-sedimentary section." Tectonic instability, coupled with volcanogenic-sedimentary processes, leads to the fact that a wide variety of rock types can be found in a small area of the earth's crust.
It may take more than a dozen years to accurately establish the mechanisms of formation of stone fungi. The driving causes of the process can be hidden at a depth of several tens of kilometers. And the course of the process can be influenced by innumerable factors - up to the growth of moss on a stone.
