In India, doctors found an underdeveloped fetus of its twin brother in a newborn baby's belly, according to the Daily Mail.
The anomaly was discovered in early July by a radiologist during a routine ultrasound of the mother in a hospital in the small town of Mumbra. He decided to schedule another examination - after giving birth. As a result, he discovered that his twin brother "hid" behind the baby's stomach.
According to the newspaper, the fetus was about seven centimeters long and weighed about 150 grams - it had time to form a brain, arms and legs.
Doctors were able to successfully remove the parasite embryo. The operation was carried out in another clinic in the city of Thana. The newborn and his mother are doing well.
“The child feels great, very soon the mother will be able to feed him,” the publication quotes one of the doctors.
This anomaly is called "embryo in embryo" and is extremely rare - only in one pregnancy in 500 thousand.
